MADE-BY is a European not-for-profit organisation with a mission to improve environmental and social conditions in the fashion industry. MADE-BY was launched in 2004 in direct response to rising consumer concern in Europe over social and environmental issues in the fashion industry. The organisation was founded by Solidaridad, a leading Dutch International NGO that has been an innovator and driving force in fair trade and environmental issues. MADE-BY operates globally in partnership with Solidaridad and has offices in the Netherlands, Germany and the United Kingdom. The UK office receives European Union funding for its operations.

The Federal Trade Commission requires a product advertised as 'Made in USA' be "all or virtually all" made in the U.S. U.S. content must be disclosed on automobiles and textile, wool, and fur products. There’s no law that requires most other products sold in the U.S. to be marked or labeled 'Made in USA' or have any other disclosure about their amount of U.S. content. However, manufacturers and marketers who choose to make claims about the amount of U.S. content in their products must comply with the FTC’s 'Made in USA' policy. Note: Products made in sweatshops in the American territory of Saipan are allowed to carry this label.
